Victoria Kaunova - Ilya Morozov Sextet
The band was founded by young stars of Moscow jazz stage - saxophonist Ilya Morozov and singer Victoria Kaunova less than 2 years ago but despite that the musicians already came up with a few new programs and released a debut album The First! on Butman Music Records (by the way the name of the album was offered to Ilya and Victoria by Randy Brecker).
Ilya Morozov is one of the brightest alto saxophonists, composers and bandleaders of new generation. He's a graduate of Gnessins Russian Academy of Music's jazz department and soloist of Igor Butman's Moscow Jazz Orchestra. His mighty sound, distinctive manner of playing and fresh ideas makes you understand why internationally acclaimed trumpeter Alex Sipiagin called Ilya “one of the best musicians he ever played with”.
Vocalist Victoria Kaunova, alumnus of Rostov Conservatory and winner of international jazz competitions, was already among the main figures of Rostov jazz stage when she decided to Moscow in 2014. Very soon she became the member of Nick Levinovsky’s project Swing Madness andsoloist of Sing, Sing, Sing musical. Adding to it starting with 2015 she has been performing with Moscow Jazz Orchestra!
Ilya and Victoria met each other in 2010 and for all this time they were dreaming about their own project. In 2015-2017 IIya and Victoria teamed with the best young Moscow jazzmen and created Ilya Morozov-Victoria Kaunova Sextet. Next year the band performed an numerous high profile festivals in Russia, and joined by heavy weight jazzmen – Alex Sipiagin and Will Vinson – recorded their album “The First”.
