Over the last 20 years Ivan Farmakovsky appeared in different roles – from being a skillful sideman of big bands to leading trio and playing the music of his own. He gained huge popularity after releasing his debut album “Next To The Shadow” in 2009, when both Russian and international critics acclaimed him as an outstanding soloist with a distinctive improvisational vision. And now his new album entitled “The Way Home” is considered to be one of the most expected jazz albums of the year.
Ivan Farmakovsky Quartet unites the best musicians on Moscow and New York jazz scene – Ivan himself on piano, Dmitry Mospan on tenor and soprano saxophones, Anton Revnyuk on double bass – who seem to know each other and play music together since their student years – and US drummer Donald Edwards. Ivan met Donald in 2008 in New York where he was recording “Next To The Shadow”, they performed together for the first time with super band Mingus Dynasty at Iridium. In the next 2 years Donald frequently came to Moscow to play with Ivan at different festivals. And these outstanding jazzmen are the line up of the new Ivan’s CD “The Way Home”!
